Was had resurrected the career of Bonnie Raitt and produced such '60s legends as Bob Dylan, so he must have seemed like the perfect vehicle to arrange the comeback of the former Rascals lead singer-songwriter/organist. Unfortunately, Cavaliere and his co-writers only had a series of bland romantic tunes up their sleeves, and Was, in contrast to many of his other productions, seemed overly concerned with updating Cavaliere's sound (unless, of course, it was Cavaliere who insisted on the modernizing). Cavaliere remained in good voice as he pushed 50, but he was singing greeting-card sentiments against a slick electronic background.
