Throughout history there have been several instances in which this world has played host to a mysterious and unstoppable force. In antiquity it was sorcerers, alchemists, and occultists, who through arcane method would summon this intangible presence to this plane, from the mists beyond. But they were not alone in possessing this ability, for it was also the artists, the poets, and the bards who through their own unique means could also invoke the divine and the malign in due fashion. But where have they all gone? Here we stagnate in the 21st century, with no arcane practitioners to break the chains that bind us to the mundane and the normalized existence we call modern life. The artists and poets and bards still exist, but their craft has been reduced to something cheap and impotent. It is into this void of meaning that Maelstrom rises from the depths of murky antiquity, to exact vengeance upon a stale and constricted reality. Wearing the mask of the assassin and carrying the weapons of the bard, this is a great work of ancient purpose, manifested in the shell of modern heavy metal.
