Dead Dolls Eyes
Timothy Reed’s music runs the gamut from New Age/Classical solo piano, to piano with soaring multi-layered vocals, to comedic songs reminiscent of Arlo Guthrie, to soulful songs influenced by artists as diverse as Pink Floyd and Simon and Garfunkel, to heart-wrenching laments such as “Dead Doll Eyes”. Dead Doll Eyes Did you know that “Approximately 20% of girls and 8% of boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday?” (Pereda et al, 2009) A fan sent me some words she had written. She revealed that they were about her experience of being sexually abused, repeatedly, over a few years, by a member of her family. I was emotionally shattered by the content and imagery in her words. I asked her if I could try adapting her words into a song, in hopes that it would help raise awareness about sexual abuse. She agreed, as long as she could remain anonymous. So, I used her words as a basis for the song lyrics, and added some words of my own as well, based on some reading I did on sexual abuse. The final result is this song, called “Dead Doll Eyes”.
