"My Heart is as Black as a Sloe" (Ta mo chroidhe chómh chíar dubh le h-áirne) Performed on a 20-string metal-strung harp made of Japanese hinoki and maple (op. 342) Instrument design, crafting, arrangement, performance, and musical commentary by Keisuke Teramoto This piece is a monophonic air included as No. 764 in the Pigot Collection of Old Irish Folk Music and Songs (1909) compiled by historian Patrick Weston Joyce (1827-1914). John Edward Pigot (1822-1871), a lawyer from Cork, collected over 2,000 melodies. This air was found in a manuscript lent to him by James Hardiman (1782-1855), a historian from Galway. As no lyrics have survived, the meaning of the title remains uncertain.
