Could You Be

Could You Be

With her smooth, sophisticated sound and intricate harmonies, Shelly Domke has arranged a rich, warm, and easy listening Christmas album that’s a must buy for those who love the classics. Two of the most remarkable tracks on the album are What Child Is This, which is reminiscent of Dianna Krall, and a haunting version of O Holy Night. The entire album is carefully crafted, and all of the tracks are delicately observed and almost worshipful in mood. An excellent addition to any holiday collection - Seraphina Nova Shelly Domke captures you in her soulful presentation of the Christmas Story. Bringing a unique arrangement mixed of jazz and folk, Shelly's tone is graceful and sure, supporting yielding accompaniments and harmonies." - Averil Bach There are singers that sound good live, then there are those that sound good recorded - sometimes it ‘s hard to find someone who can combine both, but Shelly has done this with her Christmas album. The way she presents the songs is done in a way making them some of the best versions of the song’s I have heard, from making them sound familiar yet adding a new sound to them. From acoustic to bluesy, this album shows her versatility in being able to incorporate different styles in her songs. The music and vocals are well mixed with the vocals being up front and I enjoy being able to hear each of the instruments with none being above the other. I would encourage anyone to listen to and add this album to their Christmas library. - Len Haagenson I have known Shelly for about 20 years. She has sung with other groups that I am familiar with and I have always thought she had a great voice. When I heard that she was coming out with a Christmas album I wanted it before I even heard it. I like Christmas carols with a slight twist but not distortion and Shelly’s album works nicely. It is easy going, upbeat, and just good musicianship. I also teach piano and voice lessons and like to use a good performance album as a reference, from time to time. It also helps when I know the performer. In general I can pick parts of an album and use them as examples of what a student can do to improve. This is especially helpful since I am a 2nd alto and most of my students are soprano or tenor. Thank you for the album. I really like it and will be referring it to others. - Bev Kerns I love the music and everyone I have given an album to as a gift has loved it as well..... "What a beautiful voice" is the most common comment. My favorites are "Could You Be" and "Shadow of the Cross" - Angela Hagel Shelly Domke's Christmas album is excellent. Many people are particularly averse to traditional carols when they are revised to a different "adaptation"; however, Shelly's "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" is a winner. My favorite song is "Shadow of the Cross": I hope it will eventually become a traditional carol! (It somehow reminds me of Michelle Branch's sound.) The funky guitar sound works very well with the beautiful, emotive lyrics. With all of the impressive vocals being Shelly's, I must praise the engineer that is responsible for melding her incredible vocal overlays, particularly on "Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel". "Oh Holy Night" is too good for words. "Could You Be" is a peaceful lullaby that makes me float away. I hope "A Christmas Album" is played "far and wide -- and not just at Christmas-time. - Roxie
