Echoes of Carolan Vol. 3 - Mrs. Judge This album was born from a single question: how did the 18th-century Irish composer Turlough O'Carolan perform the semitones and accidentals preserved in written scores on a diatonic wire-strung harp? By exploring that possibility, this recording traces a journey into the chromatic nuances that may have existed within Carolan's music. Six different wire-strung harps were used in the recording. The subtle fluctuations and shadows created by chromatic inflections gently reveal another image of Carolan-one that differs from the familiar festive and extroverted character often associated with his music.
