March On
From Indianapolis to Arabia... from the giant redwood forests of California to the sunny vistas of Spain... the drums beat, the music blares forth and the steady tramp of marching feet resounds again and again in the air, as the All-American Band marches on. In this album, Robert A. Williams directs the band in a spirited salute to people, places and moods. There is the bright and snappy Murat Temple, symbolizing the Indianapolis home of 'The Shriners', and the hearty treatment of The Great Northwest, dedicated to Jean Nicolet, Lewis and Clark and the other rugged individuals who first explored this fertile territory. On foreign soil, we are treated to one of Tschaikovsky’s most famous melodies, the sensuous Arabian Dance from the ‘Nutcracker Suite’ and the vari-colored, bewitching fantasia... Sunny Spain. In the mood for a Holiday? The band marks time for relaxation and fun with an exciting Ted Mesang march appropriately titled Holiday, and for another light, happy, whimsical selection, there’s Joyeux Caprice. The people in the spotlight are the high-flying Bombardier and the radio and TV broadcaster, who is personified by the flashing march that announces... On The Air. Besides the joyous inspiration it spreads, band music also has a majestic quality about it, readily exemplified by two All-American Band treatments. One is the noble March Heroic by renowned bandsman Guy E. Holmes, while the other is a concert piece that reflects the imposing beauty of the Sequoia. Here, then, for on-the-air presentation is a series of selections that perpetuates the marching band spirit... sparking and appealing numbers that invite listeners to ‘March On.’
