Williams directs the united front of melody, well represented by a lively array of baton-twirling tunes. From the opening strains of the splendidly triumphant, circus-flavored Grand Entrance March, the emblem is gleaming with bright, shining stars... each reflecting a particular march-time mood. There are the haughty, vibrant rhythms of Karl L King’s tribute to The Desert Patrol, whose gallant vigilance helps to protect the vast stretches of arid sands. Then, there is the team spirit and good fellowship engendered by the snappy entries Good Sports and Fraternal, denoting unity on the playing field and in college fraternities. The role communications have played in bringing the world closer together is symbolized by the Microphone, in honor of broadcasting and the wealth of music it brings us. Rich tonal colors abound in the two overtures of this album... the descriptive Overture Americana with its thematic musical landscape of the United States... and the jaunty melodic greeting called Felicitas. These are but part of the proud procession that marches forth under the ’Emblem Of Unity.’
