March Music is almost as old as man himself. Its history ranges from the ancient battle calls and Greek dance marches to the many modern varieties we hear today. In this album the All-American Band, under the direction of Robert A. Williams, expresses the ‘Ever Onward’ spirit in marching band music from the emotion arousing parade to the sweeping concert interpretation. Heading the passing procession is the enthusiastic, stirring march whose title indicates the ultimate in patriotism and loyalty – the staunch True Blue. Accompanying, in brisk and lively measures, are tributes to the everlasting alertness of National Defense, the martial valor, courage and achievement associated with the 34th Division; and the ceremonious commemoration of the Armistice Day Parade. To add a dash of bold defiance to the proceedings, there are the melodic portrayals of the dynamic forward surge embodied by The Buccaneers and the Sons Of The Desert. The forge-ahead determination also extends to the sports world in the cheerful rendition of Golden Bear. Changing the pace, the All-American Band strides merrily forth with Pizzicato Polka by Leo Delibes; Karl L King’s appealing waltz, Mystic Night and a special medley of south-of-the-border rhythms under the collective title of Latin Americana. All of these selections aptly demonstrate that the realm of band music is striving ‘Ever Onward.’
