Birks' Big Band Works
Entertainment guaranteed! That's what one has to think of when listening to the recordings and performances of John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie. He surely had fun in making his music, and this fun is immediately transmitted towards us, we're infected by this wonderful character and his outings – whether as singer or trumpet player. This compilation comprises Birk's works in a Big Band context, and includes the lesser-known and underrated album “Perceptions”, some sort of Dizzy's answer to Miles' Sketches of Spain.
