Tales of the Birdwatchers, Vol. 1
John Edmond’s love of wildlife and the great outdoors goes back to his childhood in Zambia and during his time at school in Scotland. When he was nine years old he and classmate Willie Brown, son of the game keeper of “Ravelston Estate” on the outskirts of Edinburgh, there they formed their own bird and nature club. Together with other young enthusiasts they had exclusive rights to scour and ramble the woods of Ravelston observing the foxes, otters, badgers and birds. Today, sadly Ravelston Estate is an Art Deco development and the old buildings and castles that were designed by Andrew Neil and Robert Hurd in 1935.-36 are sought after by the rich and famous. Later in life with his wife Teresa, passion for the outdoors continued at their farm in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. John wrote several albums pertaining to wildlife and general conservation such as the albums “Wild and Beautiful and Free”, “The Circle of Life” ,the ”Tales of the Game Rangers” series as well as “Campfire ‘n Jamboree” for scouts, guides, cubs and brownies. Royalties from the sales of these albums went to the Percy Fitzpatrick memorial trust, the Rhino and Elephant Foundation and scouting associations. During their interest and involvement in the relocation of red billed oxpeckers from Kruger Park and other programs like the Mabula Hornbill Project and the National Cheetah Management Program, they met many wildlife experts including film makers, rangers, researchers, herpetologists and ornithologists. During these exchanges they gleaned much information. They were founders of the Leeupoort Raptor Conservancy that is still active today and on a regular basis hosts conservationist speakers to create general eco awareness among its members and the public. John and Teresa have done many “live” concerts to encourage and create children’s interest and awareness in conservation. They also performed at two international game ranger conferences held in Kruger Park. “Tales of the Birdwatchers” is a unique addition to their collection and is aimed at adults and children with a unique angle on “learning the birds” by their calls including factual narrative, parable-like stories for children and catchy songs based on the rhythm of actual bird calls. The producers have chosen frequently heard birds that have habitats in most parts of Southern Africa. Enjoy this inspiring brand of wholesome family entertainment- You have to listen and hear it to believe it! Fantastic!
