Jean Sibelius certainly is one of the major 20th-century composers. Sibelius recognised Sir Thomas Beecham as a "fine conductor of his music" which is impressively shown on this album. Sir Thomas Beecham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra interpret Sibelius music in a highly romantic way that can be rarely heard nowadays. The "Order of the White Rose of Finland" was presented to the conductor after an all-Sibelius concert at London's Festival Hall in 1955 on the night of the composer's 90th birthday.
