Your Town
Waterline is a highly appropriate name for this Melbourne, Australia based rock act. The ocean has always been seen as a metaphor for the sub-conscious mind, where there is always movement beneath the surface, beyond what the conscious mind can see or feel. Such is the vibe that Waterline project. On the surface, the band comes across as a catchy, engaging rock act with broad appeal. But there is more going on here than meets the eye. The band injects subtle blues, reggae, folk and Australiana elements into their sound, and pen songs both metaphorical and psychological in their storytelling. And the beauty of it is that this band can be enjoyed and appreciated on either level. Coming together under the guidance of singer and key songwriter Alistair King in late 2010, Waterline has cemented a solid and impressive line-up of seasoned but expressive players with punchy live and studio chops. Indeed, the band has brought their dynamic live show to Melbourne and Victorian venues regularly since their inception, including memorable appearances at the Anglesea and iLive Music Festivals. Waterline released their debut album Your Town in March of 2012. Produced by the legendary Hugh McDonald of Redgum fame, the record is a varied and highly enjoyable collection of adult oriented rock songs which evoke strong memories of great Australian songwriters such as Don Walker, Paul Kelly and the Waifs. But Your Town also establishes an identity that is uniquely Waterline’s own.
