Crying
The Cavaliers formed in 1956 after hearing Elvis, Scotty & Bill at the San Angelo Municipal Auditorium January 5th 1955. From 1956 to 1964 The Cavaliers had 3 different vocalist that went on having some success as solo artists. These include Jerry Naylor (became the lead singer for The Crickets), Tommy Ruble (Memphis Top Male Vocalist of the Year in 1981), J. Frank Wilson "Last Kiss" (#1 song in U.S & Canada in 1964) and Ronnie Blackwell (became a member of Porter Wagoner's national sydicated TV show that included Dolly Parton. The Porter Wagoner Show (1960-1972) became the longest-running country music TV show in history. In 1977, Ronnie became the featured vocalist/front man for Ernest Tubb & The Texas Troubadours). Founding member Sid Holmes (lead guitar) has been a driving force through the years in keeping the group together plus producing albums and singles of the group. In 2009 Sid was the co-producer with Jerry Naylor "The Legends of Rockabilly CD/DVD that aired on PBS. Other CD's on CD Baby produced by Sid includes "The Cavaliers (1956-2006) and the single "Last Kiss 2010." It was back in 1958 when Sid was invited by Roy Orbison to sit-in playing Roy's Gibson Les Paul gold top guitar at a dance at the Kermit, Texas Convention Center. "Crying" is a tribute to Roy Orbison by The Cavaliers (recorded in 2006) featuring Rudy Mata (vocal) Kennedale, TX, Gary Holmes (drums) Crowley, TX, Neil Sheckels (bass) White Oak, TX and Sid Holmes (guitar/producer) Ft. Worth, TX. and W.C. Clark (Executive Producer) San Antonoio. TX. Recorded at Patrick McGuire Studio in Arlington, Texas. "Crying" by Roy Orbison reached #1 in The Cashbox Singles Charts back in 1961.
