Chris Colston, a Texas country music singer-songwriter from Lindale, Texas, was raised on traditional country music by a large music loving family. At a very young age Chris knew music was his future and in his blood. Growing up in a small town, raised on strong traditional values, and said by his mama to be a little hard to handle and even more hard headed, is exemplified in no uncertain terms by this Texas songwriter in his soon to be released first album “Guitar Playin’ Outlaw.” By the age of 7 Chris was playing drums and soon after picked up the guitar. At 16 his mom persuaded him to train under guitar-songwriting instructor John DeFoore, known for mentoring several successful country artists. Mr. DeFoore not only taught Chris to become a better guitar player but the importance of writing his own music. Mr. DeFoore then encouraged him to begin performing. In early 2013, Chris began performing all over East Texas for any Opry, festival, contest, or stage that would have him. By the year’s end he won his first local talent competition. Dedication and a strong work ethic have been instrumental in fast tracking Chris’ growth and maturity as a popular Texas country artist. His debut album “Guitar Playin’ Outlaw” is slated for release in spring of 2015. Chris brought in his mentors, Shawnda Rains and Charlie Shearer, to co-produce the album with Grammy award winning producer and musician Brad Davis. A year in the making, the album reflects his fresh edgy style by combining influences of his traditional country roots with outspoken views of outlaw country, then the stripped down straightforward intimate connection between the singer and audience found in Texas Country. It features ten tunes with two covers and eight originals, most of which were co-written by Chris. 2014 proved to be a busy banner year for Chris and 2015. Chris hit the competition circuit in 2014 with his title song “Guitar Playin’ Outlaw,” proving to be unstoppable, winning first place at each contest he took on. He took home top honors at the KPXI Country Showdown in Henderson, TX, the Tex Ritter Roundup/Country Showdown in Carthage, TX, the East Texas Got Talent competition in Lufkin, TX, and the Grapevine Opry Summer Talent Search in Grapevine, TX. He won his own showcase at the Grapevine Opry for his success, where debuted several of his original songs. Hosted by the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, the John Ritter Tribute Showcase in Carthage, TX awarded Chris with the title of “People's Choice” winner in 2014 and runner up overall. In 2015 he went back to Carthage and took home the 1st runner up award. Also, in 2014, his fan base nominated him for “Male Vocalist of the Year” at the ETX Music Awards and in 2015 he was again nominated for “Male Vocalist of the Year,” in addition to “Album of the Year,” and “Country Band of the Year.” Chris can be seen touring Texas with his band at dance halls, festivals, concerts, and opening for acts such as Stoney Larue, Roger Craeger, Sammy Kershaw, and more. The small town boy has achieved quite a lot of success in a year and a half, but in the words of Chris himself, “You ain’t seen nothing yet!”
