Born in New York and raised between Brooklyn and the scenic islands off the coast of South Carolina, Tamar-kali harnesses gut-based, hardcore-tinged rock with the honest, melodic inflections of soul. A well-followed favorite of New York City's downtown music scene, Tamar-kali has played venues such as Joe's Pub, CBGB, Tonic and NYU. Tamar-kali was also selected to receive a grant for New Works from Aaron Davis Hall and recognized as a contributor to the ever-continuing Harlem Renaissance by the Schomburg Center.
