Dan White is a 25 year old Adelaide-born (and proud of it!!) artist who has been composing songs for the better part of 10 years.  Dan’s performance debut was as the front-man of ‘Eyes like Fire’, the band he founded with his brother and two talented musician mates; the band operated as a tight machine for three years before the electric guitarist moved interstate and took his groove with him. Eyes like Fire continued as a three piece act for a stint before taking a break; in the meantime Dan continued to write profusely, and over the past two and a half years he has actively pursued a solo career as “Dan White”. He crafts songs that tell stories from (and to) the heart, evoking deep emotion with both melody and lyric.  Dan has gigged at a variety of venues, played at a number of fundraising efforts, and even tried his hand at wedding singing! In 2012, he was voted into the top 40 of the Catapult Song Contest, an honour he downplayed greatly (but was secretly stoked about!). Basically, Dan is keen to play (in person or through recording) wherever people will listen! Dan took guitar lessons whilst completing his tertiary studies, which was the kick-start to his foray into song-writing. However, the majority of his learning and creativity has come about through experimentation. He can usually be found hidden away in his music room, lost in a cloud of endless auditory possibilities. No guitar can contain him – though the number of guitars used at gigs would say otherwise! He loves to create alternate guitar tunings, which allows him to achieve a fuller, richer sound, - and makes it harder for people to replicate his work! Dan is inspired by a range of different bands and genres, though their influence is not immediately evident in his own sound. Artists like Thrice, Blindside, Coldplay, Mumford and sons, Matt Corby and others share a spot on his i-pod alongside orchestral geniuses like Olafur Arnold and classical greats like Debussy and Beethoven. It is the minor element that speaks deeply to Dan, though he also appreciates lighter moments and expresses them in his own writing with joy. Dan is traditional in that he strives for excellence in mastery of his instrument at any given moment – and that is not limited to guitar. He also plays drums and bass guitar, and dabbles and tinkers with the keyboard, organ, glockenspiel… He is even the proud owner of several instruments he is not sure of the name of! Dan also enjoys the use of electronic media to take his sound to another level; after all, he can only play two – maybe three instruments tops! – at any given moment in time, if you count his stunning voice as an instrument (which we do). Using many different tools, he experiments with deep, soulful layering of instruments, vocals and sounds to create thickly woven music at times. At others, he shines in the creation of simple tunes, stripped back to a raw acoustic sound. Dan enjoys performing with carefully chosen musicians to support his solo efforts, as well as playing solo with his loop pedal as a side-kick, or just a guitar in hand (and many side-stage ready to join him!). Whether aiming for a simple, compact gem of a song, an anthem or a musically driven piece merely punctuated by words, Dan aims at all times to move the audience - to connect deeply and convey a moment in time. The ‘moment’ is not always one he has lived, but he does draw greatly on his own experiences to fuel the lyrical fire.
