I'm a massive fan of the Jungle/DnB producer, Dillinja. At one point he releases a track called ‘That Amen Trk’ (tucked away on the B-Side of a double pack). Something about it struck me as both funny (“mate, have you heard that amen track?) and also interesting. The track really doesn’t tell you anything you didn’t already know about the genre, it’s just a really solid dance floor burner. I liked the idea that not every track you make needs to seek to be a groundbreaking, standout masterpiece with a unique, meaningful name. DJs need solid tools in their sets, unflashy ones that can work alongside other tracks. And sometimes, when the alchemy is just right, the repetition of these simpler pieces take on a hypnotic component, and even do something that a more intricate track might not. Whether I have achieved that with ‘That Yeah Baby Track’ is in the ear of the beholder, but I’m confident that at least a small handful of ****-heads will get it.
