Love Is Bipolar
Artists are not supposed to jump around from style-to style when making an album. They are supposed to be easily identified and compartmentalized into tags or metadata. This is an album for those who don’t care about any of that. The song “You” was written as I was stuck walking the streets of Tokyo in 1997 after missing my bus back to Tsukuba. The lyrics were written in a donut shop, on a napkin at 4 in the morning. “Only Kidding” was an experiment to mesh electronica with jazz piano. Two songs were written in the early nineties: “Sing Me A Tale” and “Think of Me”. "Some Kind of Woman" was recorded on an 8 track digital recorder in the late 1990s. “Beauty That You Keep” was written in 2005 for an abandoned project to write English tunes in the style of French chansons of the 1960s. “Have some Fun” was originally written and sung in English as if I were a disco producer in the late 1970s. I persuaded my wife, Soohee Thomas, to translate the lyrics to Korean and sing the tune at 2 a.m. This album is dedicated with love to her. The song “You’re Amazing” was a rock-funk style song that was done for fun. Thanks for listening, as always.-John
