I am Vahid. I write music, play music, love music. I've loved making music ever since picking up the violin at age 7. Writing music is one of the best things in life. For me it is a mystical experience. It actually feels like I'm discovering music not creating it. I love singing but I know there are thousands of better singers than me so I like to work with others that really make the songs stand out. I was born in small town USA (Bloomington, IN) but moved to New Zealand at age 13. NZ is a great place to live even if I'd like it to be a bit hotter. I've lived briefly in Hawaii, Jamaica and Tuvalu and can say from personal experience that the tropics know what they're doing. My two arch-enemies are time and myself. I'm also a bit untidy, and overly optimistic - but I'm not sure that's a flaw. I'm blessed to have a wonderful family. We have an absurdly fluffy cat named Percy. Pizza is without a doubt the best food in the world. And pies. Whoever invented the first fruit pie was definitely Divinely inspired. I am useless at dancing but that doesn't stop me. I love making bread. I've spent years trying to control my addiction to computer games and t-shirts. I have written music for TV shows and computer games; adverts and short films. But what I really enjoy is writing songs that make people think, or dance, or cry, or all at the same time. I love words. Rhyming words, flowing words, big words. When writing songs the chords, melodies and rhythms come to me very quickly but I agonize over lyrics. Music is supposed to inspire yet there are so many lyrics that drag the listener down to the gutter. With so much beauty in the world why fix our gaze on the scummy bits? I am a member of the Baha'i Faith. I love the way it connects me with the spiritual, makes me content and happy, has a diverse and truly loving community, and is logical at the same time.
