It seemed, for reasons unknown, I’d only work on the arrangement of this tune late at night and due in part to the laid-back hour the sounds that I layered together took on a very mellow tone. The composition started out as a simple, Deep in tone, bass line and grew from there. At the time, I was listening to a lot of Goa and Trance music and low and behold Deep began to take on a bit of a Zen feel. One day Michael Thomas, an old friend and a blues man at heart stopped by Level 3 Mania. L3M is my home studio, named in part for its location, the third floor of my home. While he was there he heard the foundation tracks of what was to become Deep. He picked up an old Strat, the one with the noisy pickups, and began to play along. I recorded his runs without him knowing and after 3 passes the result is what you now hear. It was all very spontaneous and totally in the moment. In a small way what you’re hearing is the difference between night and day. Take a minute and go Deep. Alexander Darling
