Take Me Higher
By Black Sun guitarist Brad Wilson: Take Me Higher was written by Brad Wilson and Jeff Westlake, the song was born out of a riff Jeff had kicking in his "song idea" files and just grew from there. At the time the song was written I thought I was still working on a solo project and that I would be singing the song. I wanted an album with serious songs that also had some moodiness and darkness to them while still shining that light at the end of the tunnel. When I wrote the lyrics to the song I was also envisioning something much harder than how the song eventually turned out but strongly feel that the version that made it onto the record with Az and Rikki putting their slant on the song totally took it in the modern direction I had really been hoping for all along. The song can mean something different to many different people I suppose. For me it's about war, hunger, racism, religion and all the hate that comes from those things. All the character in the song wants to do is run from all that hate even if it costs him dearly to break free of it. The same theme was used in the video for this song which was shot by Concrete Guerrilla Films, so watch it and I think you'll see what I mean. I have talked to some people about the song and it seems to mean something different to each person, so please make it your own! Cheers! Brad
