Colombian Necktie / Seizures Split

Colombian Necktie / Seizures Split

Two of California’s most aggressive and dark hardcore bands came together and created a split that serves as a memento mori to listeners. Both Colombian Necktie and Seizures have created an exciting fifteen minutes of undeniable hostility and chaos. Colombian Necktie’s side of the split starts off with ‘Faceless Lovers’, a track flourishing with feedback, distorted bass, sinister riffs and searing screams. The lyrical content of ‘Faceless Lovers’ paired with its execution creates a very nightmarish image, unlit and cold. The following track, ‘Disease’ begins with a hammering wall of noise, saturated with blast beats as well as piercing screams lingering with hysteria. Sections of this song are spoken, which adds a poetic layer that contrasts well with the screams. Necktie’s portion of the split comes to an end with a head-banging breakdown that serves as a memorable epilogue. Threatening, menacing, and loud, Colombian Necktie is a band with a chip on its shoulder and a hell of a live show. Seizures side of the split begins similarly to Necktie’s with a disorienting swell of distortion and noise. It is a relatively calm prelude when compared to the following seven minutes and twenty-eight seconds of absolute disorder. The distorted swell reaches it’s peak and at that moment Seizures grabs you by the throat and drags you into their own hell in ‘Lurid’. The following three minutes and twenty-one seconds begin with short, spastic breaks of undeniable aggression. The song takes on a frantic and antagonistic form, complimented effectively with the vocalist’s indisputably violent scream that carries the song through a collection of breakdowns that will leave you with a shiver. ‘Eternal’ thrusts you into a fray of consistently well-written riffs and aggressive drumming. This eventually leads to a dark, calm break that gradually escalates, leaving the listener anxious for the inevitable onslaught. The wait is paid off with my favorite two minutes in metallic-hardcore music. Undeniably heavy and incredibly diverse, the last two minutes of ‘Eternal’ never cease to spark a surge of hatred through my bones. Seizures consistently put on a frantic, angry, and (quite literally) dark show that will keep the crowd a frenzied mass of motion and collision. Dillon Cullinan, 2012
