Starlight Band Biography Starlight Band Consists of: Colleen Brown (Vocalist/Lyricist) has been singing all of her life. Her father, a classical pianist, taught her from age 5, vocal phrasing and other essential vocal concepts. As a result her singing style is very much like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and other groove oriented jazz singers whose voicings for jazz improvisation always tell a musical story. Colleen has performed for many different musical genre styles with bands in Arizona, California and Florida from 1955 through the mid-70's. Colleen continued to polish her vocal skills in the late 70's performing as a featured jazz vocalist with the California Orange Coast College Jazz Band and several local small jazz groups. Howards' music education began with cornet/trumpet playing in Jr. High, followed by piano lessons (mostly chords) and at age 15, classical guitar lessons for a couple of years. During high school, he became interested in jazz and has been dedicated to jazz guitar since that time. Howard has played guitar professionally with different small groups and combos for many years learning old standards, jazz standards, Bossanovas and top 40 songs. Howard & Colleen married in 1957, performed in California, Florida and Arizona before settling in Payson, Az (2004). For 20 years they retired from music until 2005 (retirement for Howard), when a couple of musician friends asked them to "sit-in" at the Strawberry Lodge in the Arizona mountains. They worked with the "Payson Jazz Trio" for about 1 1/2 years before moving on to a small group now named "Starlight". They are now performing with "Starlight" doing a few concerts, weddings and other events that request "Starlight" music. Howard composed and arranged the music and Colleen penned the lyrics for "Just Maybe", a Bossanova tune soon to be released via digital download on CDBaby. Mike Casey (Composer/Keyboards/Vocals), began his professional music career in Schenectady, N.Y. while playing with "Pryzm" in 1993.
