Stoner/McKay's 1996 masterwork "Liberty City" has finally arrived in the digital age! Stoner/McKay began as an acoustic duo in early 1995. Singer Dan Stoner first met guitarist Ryan McKay in the bar band circuit in Quincy, Illinois. The two became fast friends and Ryan joined Dan's group Vendetta. This initial partnership was short lived however as Ryan took a gig with another band the following year. Still retaining a close musical bond and friendship, the duo began writing acoustic songs that would eventually become their debut album 'No Time Like the Present". The album was a surprise hit. The duo of Stoner/McKay was officially on the map. The duo wasted 'no time' in getting back to writing and recording the follow up. To augment the sound they decided to add a rhythm section. One of the area's best drummers Denny Beckman was on board and the bass guitar duties were assigned to Don Van Dyke. Don was a kind of Stoner/McKay alumni as he contributed lyrics to a few songs on the first album. The four proceeded to go on a creative tear that resulted in a sprawling 15 song record titled "Liberty City". A tale of lost love and the search to find it. A record that celebrates it's broken heart, but never wallows in it. Production that is vulnerable and raw like it's own emotions. Even in it's darkest place there is energy and hope to be found. By the time the last breath of "Saving All My Blues" is spent, you are left feeling uplifted and most importantly, not alone. In it's day, Liberty City was a success. Radio play and sales were substantial. But the most critical test, the test of time, the album passed with flying colors. A small band from a small town and yet they created music that keeps finding a new audience 16 years after calling it quits.
