All but one of the songs on ‘The Late Great’ were written and recorded over the course of a couple of years which probably explains the eclectic mixture of styles that they are. Song writing can be a curse, one that is difficult to shake, I am constantly influenced by what I hear and read and any interesting phrase that catches my attention has me running desperately towards a pen and paper (or these days my smart phone) to capture it before I forget it. I am not precious about song format and have the most admiration for those people who vary their song writing and recording output, those people that have no pigeon hole (except the one marked different). This collection of songs was written between September 2014 and August 2016 except for ‘Do you know who you are?’ which was written by my good friend Alan S Robinson around 1752.
