Lightning Bugs are an Indie rock group from the Detroit Suburbs and even before releasing their debut album "Kensington" in 2012, they found themselves playing huge local festivals like the Metro Times Blowout 2011 and 2013, Arts Beats and Eats (2011 & 2012), Ferdale's DIY Festival 2012 and 2014l and Detroit Riverdays. They have opened for international touring artists Frontier Ruckus and New York's own Bear hands. They followed that up by playing the TEDX Detroit conference at the GEM Theater and radio airplay on 89X. Lightning Bugs were also invited to NXNE 2013. Lightning Bugs quickly marked its territory on the Detroit music scene by working the biggest local stages of Ferndale, Berkley and Detroit. In March 2011, the band was dubbed CW50's 2011 Best Blowout Band after an unstoppable performance in the Metro Times Blowout in Hamtramck which brought Ryan Allen of Patch.com to rave about their melodramatic, bass guitar driven style, and their "grandiose moves of U2, Psychedelic Furs, the National and New Order." Allen says, "It's uplifting music for a depressing time.” From there, notoriety grew, and they performed at such venues as The Majestic Theater, The Gem Theater and The Magic Bag . They’ve also performed as far away as Brooklyn, New York.
