This is a fine complement to Burke's first album, "Alina's Playlist." Underneath the catchy tunes and humorous lyrics is a deep commentary on contemporary society and our inner psyche. Burke questions the value of our modern day diversions, even poking fun at himself for "recording songs no one will ever hear" in the boot-stomping "On the Farm." He explores our insecurity in interpersonal relationships in the light but touching "Counting Shoulders" and the infectiously catchy "You Had to Be There." In "Guatemala Moments," Burke cleverly juxtaposes the fairytale world of our modern day theater with the lonely reality of our day to day lives backed by a trippy blend of psychedelic and Spanish music. And I'm not even going to get into the theological implications of the ultra laid back sounding "Jesus V. Snooki." Much easier to swallow than carrot cake, "Katie's Blog" blends interesting ingredients for a rather tasty musical treat. Originally released February 22, 2011, less than 4 months after "Alina's Playlist," much of "Katie's Blog" was composed and recorded on a California beach vacation during the December 2010 holiday season. This 2012 anniversary edition includes a bonus track featuring music recorded during the California beach recording session, but vocals from a blog Katie wrote after the initial album release!
