Not so long ago, EWAH relocated to Hobart after half a lifetime in Melbourne. EWAH’s writing has covered themes of heart-aching honesty, wry domestic drama, escapist Australiana, and conceptual releases like GOSPEL DANCE, explored spirituality, primitivism and rhythm. Now EWAH explores themes of otherness and in-between worlds told via stories of violent crimes against women. The music is chiaroscuro, light and dark, where the ethereal and the sinister coexist, meeting in some strange twilight place. EWAH performs the songs on saturated and lush electric guitar with her band The Vision of Paradise (TVOP). Charles Donnelly layers atmospheric 80s analog synth, while cohorts Stuart Hollingsworth on bass, and Paul Brooks on drums grind out sleazy and insistent rhythms. Highlights of EWAH’s music career include playing the MainStage at MONA Easter Market 2016 with TVOP, supports with Rowland S Howard, Harry Howard and the NDE, The Bird Blobs, French/Tucsan, Arizonian artist Marianne Dissard and Oliver Mann. The latter, a truly original operatic folk songwriter and performer, invited EWAH to join him on the gothic and delicate duet, Deepest Temple Part II. Other memorable performances have been appearing as part of Melbourne Music Festival 2003 and at the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2011 as a guest on the live show and online broadcast of Radio Anytime. In 2010 E-wah took home the APRA Darebin Songwriters’ Award after performing her a capella song When You’re Down & Out.
