ADDITIONAL ALBUM NOTES: “This album started as a gift for my baby girl, Lydia. The idea came from a parenting class at our church that recommended that fathers make a recording of their voice that could be played for their child while they are at work. The original songs, traditional music and hymns on the album don’t just serve as lullabies while Daddy is away, but also share with my little girl the salvation, truth and encouragement one experiences in a relationship with Jesus Christ. This doesn’t mean that pain and trials won’t come, but it means that you will always have someone there to pick you up and love you in spite of your fall, in spite of your shortcomings. It’s interesting how little babies are attracted to any light that they can find. Somewhere along the way, we stop looking as much to the light. We grow distracted or sometimes even embrace the darkness. The cold isolation and attractive independence to do what we would like in the shadows sometimes seems warmer than the light itself. The good news is the ultimate light, Jesus Christ, is always there waiting. His light never loses its warmth, even to the coolest soul. Christ, the light of the world, shines brightest when the darkness is darkest. Just look at what He accomplished on the cross when the world seemed its darkest. The message is simple and sweet like the recording. Most of the ‘acoustic a cappella’ arrangements are three part vocals and for a change of pace, my good friend Jon Evans provided guitar on a couple tracks. A special shout out goes to my brothers in harmony, Fourth Avenue, who provided a more extravagant layering of vocals on two of the CD tracks. In the end it was the universal truths and not the production values of the recording that led me to wanting to share this music with others.
