Original members Randy California and Ed Cassidy are joined by keyboard player Scott Monahan, who helps fill out the sound of a trio attempting to recreate the sound of the original quintet. (Original pianist John Locke sits in on two tracks.) The set list is dominated by familiar titles from Spirit's late '60s/early '70s heyday-"I Got A Line On You," "Nature's Way," "1984"-along with California favorites like "Hey Joe" and "Like A Rolling Stone," some extended jamming, and a few unremarkable new songs. Though perhaps redundant, this release on the group' s own label at least demonstrates that it remained a potent concert attraction 25 years after the original group fragmented.
