The Rub recorded their second album, DAY OFF FROM KARMA at Vitus Matare's Lyceum Sound studio with John Talley-Jones producing. As with their first album, BIKINI GOSPEL, the songs belie their expected sunny SoCal beach vibe in favor of something more personal than pop, more cutting than folk, but also a fine hybrid with the injection of some jolting punk-rock energy. Edward Mooney and Dan Duarte, along with new drummer Dirk Vandenberg (TragicComedy, also a studio and live performer with The Minutemen and Firehose,) do the essential lifting. Guesting are Richard "Crane" Kreiger (performer with TragicComedy, The Minutemen) , Matare (The Last, Trotsky Icepick,) and Talley-Jones (Urinals, 100 Flowers.)
