The Days of Pearly Spencer (Extended Version)
After a twenty year career as a press photographer, and later as a photo/journalist, Nicky Lewin became a professional guitarist in 2007. He nows makes his living by playing mainly in cafe's, restaurants and at various events. As a photographer he worked extensively in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and his native UK. He was awarded over a dozen major awards including London & Northern Home Counties Press photographer of the Year twice, and Humanitarian Photographer of the Year in the United States at events attended by U2's Bono and US Secretary of State Colin Powell. Nicky's main interest at present is orchestrating. He is at present finishing two Symphonies, both set for near future release. There is also a documentary being made in the United Kingdom about his experiences, especially in D.R.Congo where he worked on nine occasions between 1994 and 2006, and also with the Batwa people of East/Central Africa. For this single 'The Days of Pearly Spencer" Nicky teamed up with much acclaimed recording artist, author, and poet Martin Newell. Both affectionately remember hearing it played on the pirate radio station Radio Caroline during the 1960's. The song was composed by the much loved Northern Ireland singer/songwriter David McWilliams, now sadly passed on but very fondly remembered for his beautiful songs.
