Michael Plater is a singer/songwriter based in Melbourne, Australia. Taking in various indie, americana, art-rock, and “noir” influences, his music has been compared to such artists as The Velvet Underground, The Triffids, Nick Cave, Smog, Townes Van Zandt, and the Go-Betweens. His solo album, “Exit Keys” was released in 2012. Featuring contributions from such legendary Melbourne musicians as Brooke Penrose (Saint Jude, the Scouts) on bass, organ, accordion, and piano, Bill Deeble (Little John, Saint Jude) on drums and percussion, and Caz Ganell (Laura, Clinkerfield) on cello, it received worldwide critical acclaim (in such areas as Spain, the U.S, Germany, England, and France) and picked up strong airplay on such national radio stations as Triple R, 3D, FBI, 3CR, PBS, 4ZZZ and Northwest FM. A new solo single A Matter of Degrees/Smoke, recorded in a single afternoon at Headgap with Neil Thomason (Augie March, the Wagons), was released in June 2014. His latest solo single, "the Officer's Mess," is out now.
