'Real / Not Real' is Interiors' debut on Mozart Kind, a record that marks the beginning of a new period of creativity and sonic exploration for the group. The EP touches on strange and sensitive emotions at times, while also unleashing vast and energetic sonic textures which might be equally at home in the club or in the living-room. It is the kind of electronic music that transforms its tools through vision, rather than being defined by them -it creates its own genres rather than relying on what has come before and what is already familiar. Electric guitars, synthesizers, field-recorded samples, home-made drum machines all live within the same universe, combining with layers of deep melodies, enraptured lyrics, and hypnotic beats. It is music about transformation, rendered into a palpable, emotional form. Interiors is the experimental art-pop project of Thomas Thorson, who is supported by collective of talented artists and musicians, loosely based in Portland, OR, USA. Under the name Interiors, Thorson and his collective have been experimenting with recordings and performances since 2007. "Interiors begins and ends in dreams. We are walking down a long hallway. As we brush past a mirror, we turn to catch a glimpse of our reflection but the image always slips from view. We want music that can show us who we are. "Powerful music takes me into dreams. I feel that music can create new worlds for me as well as for others--it can open up parts of our vast undiscovered selves and reveal truths that we might not discover by any other means. On rare occasions we have the opportunity to discover that we are not what we once believed ourselves to be--we can surpass ourselves. The strangeness that I see in myself and in the world drives me to continue developing my songs with an ever-shifting palate of sounds and textures which are organized in an effort to match the fluid and surreal movement of this reality in flux.
