Mietta is a singer whose genre defies neat labels or pigeonholes. Her influences span jazz, blues, latin, soul, funk, pop and Flamenco. She has successfully shaped an amalgam of all of the above into her own distinctive style. Is Mietta Australian music's best-kept secret? From residencies and TV appearances with her post VCA band 'String Theory', to sell-out gigs at Sydney's prestigious Vanguard and The Famous Spiegeltent, at Melbourne, the only constant in Mietta's career is her ability to perform with verve and style. Her passionate, dynamic stage presence and the powerful music she creates consistently leaves her audiences wowed. Now Mietta is poised to take her music to a wider audience. Her self-titled debut album M I E T T A is due for release early in 2013. As with every artist, Mietta's overnight success has taken time. Mietta studied Improvising/Jazz vocal at Melbourne's Victorian College of the Arts, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Since then, her deep desire to study, and perform has taken Mietta around the world. Inspired by gypsy and Flamenco rhythms, Mietta travelled to Madrid where she performed and recorded with some of Spain's leading Flamenco artists. This period culminated in offers of recording contracts, and onstage appearances before enthusiastic audiences in Madrid. Mietta returned to Australia, fuelled with determination to continue her evolution. A series of gigs with some of Melbourne's best emerging young musicians led to a prestigious three-month engagement as one of the headline acts at the opening of Singapore's spectacular Marina Bay Sands hotel/casino early in 2010. Back in Australia, Mietta resumed her busy routine. Performing at gigs, sharing stages with artists like Vanessa Amorosi, Alex Pertout and Deborah Conway. And, as her reputation grew, Mietta was requested to sing at an increasing number of private functions and high profile events. All the while her style, and songwriting continued to evolve. Mietta had been writing songs for years, but knew now was the time to put the pieces together. In 2011, Mietta, in conjunction with producer Damien Charles, assembled a number of Melbourne's A-list jazz and Flamenco musicians to begin work on an album. The result is M I E T T A, a showcase for Mietta's talent as singer, songwriter and band leader. The music is a heady mix of styles: jazz, swing, blues, Flamenco, Latin and funk. Fused, blended, percolated and performed with unerring control and virtuosity. Mietta's electrifying stage presence has now been captured on record. Her passion, groove and excitement are combined with stunning performances from the assembled musicians, including 17-piece orchestra. Lush arrangements and standout production complete the picture.
