I have invented a new genre for this album; neo-progressive power metal (or just neo-progmetal). Just like neo-prog is a style of progressive rock where synthesizers are the most dominant instrument, neo-progressive power metal is naturally a style of prog/power where the synthesizers are sitting on the throne. I am admitting here - in front of my all-knowing and all-seeing RYM friends - that I really love the album 7 Sins. I'm a keyboard player myself and synthesizers are my favorite instrument in any kind of music, so it's not a surprise that 7 Sins hits me so hard. But the true beauty of Heavenfall is that it's not just the arrangements that rule, all the compositions are killers as well. And so is the lead singer Daniel Lähms. The production is modern sounding and clear as the water in a mountain rill. How is it even possible for an album to be this perfect? Imagine if Fish era Marillion would have suddenly started to play progressive power metal. Just how insanely f**king cool that would have been? Well this cool. I think I might like Heavenfall even more than Axxis and Mob Rules, which are both my all time favorite German neo-power metal bands. 7 Sins is easily the biggest positive surprise of the year. So far 2011 has been a really lousy year in music, but things are starting to look slightly better now. Now I owe a huge thank you to my friend _RebellioN_, who smelled the opportunity and recommended this album to me.
