We sing of new worlds which they built that most would never see. We sing of those they left behind; of children and of wives. We sing of change and turmoil brought by warfare to their lives. We sing of how in battle's midst their menfolk grinned and joked. We sing the songs that kept them strong and lent them light and hope. Through song these soldiers chronicled their years of strife and fray; Through song they were recruited, to song they marched away And now through song we tell to you the story of those days Of wives and children left behind and men who marched away.
